DYP News - Highlights 2008

November

We found a sponsor from Germany for Austin. Kimberly was less lucky at first. Somebody from the US promised to sponsor her, but never got in touch with her or DYP anymore. Eventually she found a sponor from Switzerland..

The Fast Wolf Family recently moved into the house that the Mission of Love Foundation has built for them. Actually, these are two doublewide trailers that were attached together to make one large home.

Back of the house. You can still see the foundation of the old house that burned down.

There is also a newspaper article/video on the internet:

On this picture our previous "Rezkid of the Month", Martha, is presenting some of the new clothes she got from her German Sponsor, who will support her on an monthly basis:

We also found a sponsor for Martha's twin sister. The girl suffers from a skin desease and did not want her picture to appear on our website.

On July 29, the house of the Fast Wolf Family burned down completely (Newspaper Article).

Mary and Varden Fast Wolf have 13 children. Most of them are adopted. Indian Country is in need of families where kids can find a home when their own parents are not capable of taking care of them.
The Mission of Love Foundation has built a new house for the family. Electrical wiring is the last need before they can move in.

June

Our "Rezkid of the Month", Mary Pearl, received the clothing she was longing for. Here she shows a part of it:

Two of our "Rezkids" participated recently in the "Sacred Hoop 500 Mile Run".

It is a one week event where Lakota runners run approximately 500 miles around the Black Hills.

The purpose of the run is to raise awareness for the unlawfully occupance of the Black Hills by the US government.

The runners cover a certain distance and then other runners take over.

Our "Rezkids" Maya und Byron have been participating in this event for several years.

April

Sage, our "Rez Kid of the Month" received the Playstation he was wishing for. Somebody in Germany donated a used Playstation with some accessories.

Sage had to be patient as it took some weeks until the parcel finally arrived here, but it was sure worth the wait!

Sage also found a sponsor from Germany who will support him on a monthly basis.

We had a late Blizzard in the middle of April, but now it seems like spring has finally arrived - and hail stormes and tornadoes that come with it. The extreme weather conditions are causing even more problems for a lot of Indian families

Springtime also means, that a lot of kids need new clothes and shoes. And this year, three of the kids we presented on this website are graduating 8th grade and need something nice to wear at the junior prom.

Wiconi, who we presented last time, was once again the Champion of a wrestling tournament. On the picture she shows her certificate and the medals she won so far.

January

Our " Rez Kid of the Month”, Wiconi, was thrilled about the clothes she received through donations from Germany: (Click here if you want to see all clothes she got)

Wiconi also found a sponsor from Switzerland who will support her on a monthly basis.

Also this year we received donations from Europe during the holiday season, which not only enabled us to have our Christmas Gift Drive, but also to buy a used washer for the family of Wiconi. Clothes and Christmas gifts were also bought for all of her siblings and cousins.

Additionally, we purchased clothes for other children and bought food for a Christmas dinner for a grandmother who is taking care of four teenage grandkids.

This year we distributed approx. 200 bags with fruit, nuts, candies and small gifts to kids of all ages:

The siblings and cousins of Wiconi show their bags.

Also the family of Sage, our new "Rezkid of the Month", received bags.

People also donated clothes and toys, which made some kids happy.
Thank you again to everyone that helped to make this happen.
