DYP News - Highlights 2002

WOOD CUTTING

DYP received a good running 4-wheel truck due to donations from two German groups in September 2002. Thank you to VEREIN ZUR UNTERSTÜTZUNG NORDAMERIKANISCHER INDIANER e.V. (ASSOCIATION FOR THE SUPPORT OF NORTH AMERICAN INDIANS) & GESELLSCHAFT FÜR BEDROHTE VÖLKER (SOCIETY FOR THREATENED PEOPLES) and especially to Carola Thomas for all her efforts in bringing it to South Dakota.

The truck is needed to haul logs and bulky materials for the construction of the planned DYP Youth Home.
It is also supposed to bring firewood to needy families on the Resevation.

An excellent chain saw was donated by another German group, LAKOTA REUTLINGEN e.V.

JAMES ROBIDEAU IN EUROPE

In September and October 2002 DYP President James Robideau traveled to Germany, Poland and Switzerland for lectures and sharing of ceremonial knowledge. Some limited fundraising activities took place in Switzerland and Germany through talks at schools and youth clubs.

ROOF REPAIRS
A German couple, Gaby and Manfred Usemann, visited the DYP and noticed the living room ceiling of one of the former DYP volunteer homes was deteriorated from leaks in the roof. They purchased materials and with the help of James Robideau and his son Wamni they repaired the whole roof. Many thanks to them.
